We are delighted to share that Chen Ching-Yuan has been invited to participate in the 18th Istanbul Biennial , showing until November 23 2025. Titled “The Three-Legged Cat”, the biennial unfolds across eight venues in Istanbul, free to the public.
At Zihni Han, Chen presents twelve works from his ongoing series The Brick and Timber (2020–2021). Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, the series invites viewers to reflect not only on what collapses, but also on what endures in the wake of disruption.Within the micro-series The Blocks, bricks are arranged into modest architectures of resistance, inspired by makeshift roadblocks used in social protests. These works stem from the artist’s reflections on protest architecture—specifically the barricades improvised from brick, wood, and debris in moments of spontaneous uprising. Other works, such as The Limbs, portray severed tree trunks in states of recombination, evoking themes of resistance, destruction, and renewal.
