The exhibition "Echoes of Taiwan," commissioned by the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, has arrived in Murcia. It invites visitors to immerse themselves in Taiwan's complex and fascinating history through the eyes of eight contemporary artists who use digital media as their primary form of expression. The exhibition offers a sensory and reflective journey through the historical, political, and cultural layers that have shaped Taiwan's current identity. Curated by the PROYECTOR Moving Image Platform, the exhibition aims to create an opportunity to reflect on the technological evolution of video art while exploring a pioneering culture in experimentation and development with digital media. Mario Gutiérrez Cru and Rebeca M Urízar, the exhibition's curators, invite viewers to explore the multifaceted nature of video art and digital and analog creation, positioning Taiwan as a global leader in the contemporary art scene. From the very beginnings of cinema, the early avant-garde movements experimented with image techniques that later became established as fundamental elements of cinematic language. Theatrical exhibition formats allow for the use of multiple simultaneous projections or screens, installations, and analog formats, adapting the pieces specifically to the space—in this case, Pavilion 1 of the Artillery Barracks in Murcia. With these elements, new formats and media are explored to conceptually reformulate the installations, propose new creations, or generate a relationship between the image and the viewer's body, which becomes physically integrated into the works.

In the exhibition, the atmosphere of the first student occupation of Taiwan's Parliament dissipates the perception of space-time in Yuan Goang-Ming's The 561st hour of occupation (2014); Joyce Ho unveils her own intimacy by exploring daily routines through Vera X Diary (2024); Charwei Tsai reflects in Circle II (2011) on the transience of human existence, echoing the cyclical nature of life and the universe through the concept of ensō, which embodies impermanence, emptiness, and the fullness of the present moment.
