We are honoured to share that Sawangwongse Yawnghwe has been invited to the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia – Biennale Arte 2026, In Minor Keys, curated by Koyo Kouoh.


 

After the passing of Koyo Kouoh, La Biennale di Venezia chose to carry out the exhibition to preserve, enhance and widely disseminate her ideas and the work she pursued with such dedication to the very end.

Born in Shan State, Burma (1971), Sawangwongse Yawnghwe works across painting, installation, and cartographic forms. His practice traces the intersections of history and memory, examining how personal narratives move through political landscapes. Through layered surfaces and reconfigured archival materials, he reflects on absence, rupture, and the unseen structures shaping Myanmar’s past and present.
