TKG+ is pleased to share Yuan Goang-Ming's participation at "Refocusing on the Medium: The Rise of East Asia Video Art" at OCAT, Shanghai. The show brings together video works from 1960s to late 1990s by artists coming from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan to Hong Kong.
Yuan's video installation presented in this show, "Fish on Dish", was the artist's premier work conjoining both objects and video projections. An overhead projector casts an image of a goldfish against 42-centimeter white dish situated on the floor. The projection produces a virtual fish swimming graciously in a pool. The work relies on round porcelain dish and goldfish, both recognized as prominent figurative symbols of the east. The artist's work leaves its audience questioning its existence as the fish leisurely swims within the dish, though being fully unaware of itself bounded in confinement.
