Joyce Ho is invited to exhibit her work “Ups and Downs” at 2021 YUGUANG ISLAND ART FESTIVAL, which opens this afternoon.
The inspiration for “Ups and Downs” comes from the act of resting. At first sight, the enlarged pillow seems to be no more than an ordinary household object, but upon closer look, the physical state of the object is in a fixed shape, as if a person is still resting upon it, compressing it. This makes the inanimate object looks like a living organism, stretching in the woods. The artwork is installed in the middle of Yuguang Island's forest. The hope is to bring to mind the idea of respite as the traveler arrives at the beach after moving through the forest, all the while associating with a surrealistic living state.
