Taiwan Cultural Center in France, Ministry of Culture, once again partners with the Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation (MRO Foundation) in 2026. Curated by the Foundation's newly appointed Chief Curator, Alejandro León Cannock, the collaboration invites Taiwanese contemporary artist Yuan Goang-Ming to participate in the 57th edition of Les Rencontres d'Arles, with the exhibition on view from July 6 to October 4.

Under the overarching theme "Des mondes à relire" (Rereading the World), Les Rencontres d'Arles explores photography as a means of reinterpreting history, identity, and our understanding of the world through archival research, personal narratives, and contemporary artistic practices. Responding to this year's festival theme, the MRO Foundation presents Come Together, bringing together twelve artists and artist groups from around the world to address the complex challenges facing contemporary global society. The exhibition examines how images can serve as a vital medium for reflection, connection, and the repair of social relationships.

Yuan Goang-Ming presents two representative works: the video installation Everyday Maneuver and Landscape of Energy – Stillness. Chief Curator Alejandro León Cannock notes that Yuan's works not only resonate profoundly with the exhibition's exploration of togetherness and interconnectedness, but also reveal how invisible forces—including politics, technology, and the environment—shape contemporary human existence. Through his distinctive visual language of landscape, Yuan exposes the latent anxieties and vulnerabilities embedded in today's world, extending the exhibition's theme beyond emotional connection toward a critical reflection on the systemic interdependencies of modern society.

Chen Hung-Hsing, Director of the Taiwan Cultural Center in France, remarked that Yuan Goang-Ming's practice is rooted in Taiwan's unique social experience, using video art to sensitively portray the ways in which crises quietly permeate everyday life. His works invite viewers to reflect upon universal values such as peace, security, and sustainable development. Presenting Yuan's work on one of the world's leading international platforms for photography not only highlights the strength and growing international visibility of Taiwan's contemporary moving-image art, but also fosters cross-cultural dialogue through the language of art, offering global audiences a Taiwanese perspective on the shared challenges of our time.
